Overview
Sertifi uses electronic signatures, not digital signatures. These are two different things, and it is important to understand the distinction if your organization or region requires one specifically.
Electronic signature vs. digital signature
An electronic signature is a legally binding way to sign a document online — such as clicking to accept or drawing your signature. Sertifi fully supports electronic signatures, which are valid under laws like the US E-SIGN Act and UETA.
A digital signature is a more complex cryptographic method that uses encryption algorithms to verify both the identity of the signer and that the document has not been tampered with since signing. Digital signatures require certificate-based IDs issued by a trusted authority.
Does Sertifi support digital signatures?
No. Sertifi does not support certificate-based digital signatures at this time. If your contract, country, or industry requires a digital signature specifically, please contact Sertifi Support to discuss whether Sertifi will meet your requirements.
