What is CVV?

CVV (Card Verification Value) is the 3- or 4-digit security code printed on a credit card. It confirms the person making the payment physically has the card, which reduces fraud for online transactions.

Does Sertifi store CVV?

No. Sertifi never stores CVV. PCI compliance rules prohibit storing CVV after a transaction is processed. CVV is used for initial verification only and is immediately discarded.

Your property should never maintain a written or digital log of CVV codes — this violates PCI compliance.

Why did a transaction fail because of CVV?

Some card issuers require CVV for certain transaction types. If CVV is not provided or does not match, the card issuer may decline the transaction. This is a decision made by the bank — not by Sertifi.

Who controls whether CVV is required?

Your PMS (Property Management System) or POS provider controls CVV requirements — not the payment gateway. To change this:

• Non-Marriott properties: Contact your PMS or POS provider.
• Marriott properties: Submit a ServiceNow request through MGS.

A guest says the CVV field is not appearing on the authorization form
