To protect you from unauthorized transactions, the hospitality company you're working with has enabled 3D Secure (3DS). Your bank may guide you through a quick authentication step before your payment can be completed. This is a normal security precaution to keep your account safe.
What is 3D Secure?
3D Secure is an added layer of payment security used by major card networks including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, and Discover. When enabled, your bank verifies your identity before processing the transaction.
3DS is powered by the following card network programs:
- Visa – Visa Secure
- Mastercard – Mastercard ID Check
- American Express – SafeKey
- JCB – J/Secure
- Discover – ProtectBuy
Who Needs to Complete Authentication?
If your transaction requires verification, the cardholder — the person whose name is on the payment card — will be required to authenticate the payment before the transaction can be completed.
What You May Be Asked to Provide
Depending on your bank, you may be asked to provide one or more of the following:
- A one-time passcode (sent via text, email, or banking app)
- A PIN or password
- Personal details (such as ZIP code or phone number)
- Approval through your bank's mobile app (biometric or push notification)
Please follow the prompts carefully and be prepared to complete this step if requested. Once authenticated, your transaction can be finalized securely.
What the Authentication Screen Looks Like
When 3DS is triggered, you will see a verification screen from your bank directly within the Sertifi payment page. The screen will vary depending on your card network:
- Visa Secure: You will see a "Transaction Verification" prompt displaying a partially masked email address where your one-time password (OTP) was sent. Enter the OTP and click Verify. If you did not receive the code, click Resend OTP.
- Amex SafeKey: You will see a "Verification Check" screen displaying a partially masked email address where your verification code was sent. Enter the code and click Continue. If you did not receive it, click Resend verification code.
If you have questions or need assistance completing authentication, please contact your bank directly or reach out to Sertifi Support.
